Stepping stones, a smart way to get across the raging waters.Looking out over the foamy waves, memories flooded back to him.He had came this way to enter this herd place to where he was now Leader.Feeling that relief, he let the memory of the pathway flood back to him, a little adventure never hurt, usually.Snorting, he stretched her left fore piston forward as he scraped the snow back, leaving a scrape to furrow the earth, to reveal the hide that was buried within its marvolous depthss.Nibbling on the short blades of grass kept green by the melting snow under his cream tianted talons. He looked over the waves crashing upon the shores before him.He wanted to meet the Stargazer that was so humbly a part of his harem. The only thing he knew was her title and her regal breed.A gentle giant of the Shires, Sominum was a beauty herself, a great and wise mare.He was honored ot have her in hsi harem.Looking ot the Gods above, he whispered, letting it be carried by the winds above, Sominum, I wish to greet you finally.

Sominum moved easily over the frozen terrain, feathered hooves crunching the snow. The massive mare had made her home here along the shores of the river, preferring to keep to herself and leave the rest of the herd to their lives. If the ancestors decided to speak, she'd listen and carry their message to the herd. Otherwise, she'd keep to herself.
Sliding to a halt at the banks of the river, the dappled mare swung her head to the right, picking up the movement of a cream form against the snowy white background. Offhand, she didn't recognize the other equine, but he was on the Twilight lands and more importantly in her own personal space. Tossing her head, she kicked up her heels in a trot towards the creamy stallion.
"Hail to you, stallion." She called as she neared the other, her hooves slowing to a stop. "What brings you out to my little corner of the world?"

The towers that were rimmed with snow of the heavens perked and one tower fell to listen to the heavy hoofbeats. The crunching of snow was a lookout and a sign for him to pay attention to her now.Turning his bodice towards her, he kept her in his orbs as he bowed his crania slightly saying, I am the Lead Stallion, I wished to greet you.I call myself Loco from past events.Tell me, what is of this desolate area? He was truly interested in the area around him as he had entered the realm through this place and found it to his liking for a family raising and a holy round.Thinking back to his horrid foalhood, his orbs grow shadowed as he remembered and heard the neighs and screams for challenges andinjured.Shaking his dile, he felt his forelock fall across one optic as he waite dfor a repsonse.

The dappled mare felt a smile crossing her face, and she dipped her own head in return. "Hail then, Loco, Lead of the Twilight Lands." She spoke out in her strong, clear voice, as if proclaiming to the land itself that it had a new leader. Raising her head again, she turned to regard the river, which was still ice-locked in places.
"This is Rapid River, which begins as waterfalls in the Sunrise Lands and ends as a lake in the Midnight Lands." Her head swung back around to calmly eye Loco, studying him with thinly veiled curiosity. "This is where you may find me, if my presence is needed. I find the nights here are clearer than with the rest of the herd."
Her gaze was becoming steadier and more focused, watching the Lead carefully. "Something troubles you, Loco." She stated suddenly, her head tilting slightly. "But I shall not inquire. Still, besides my duties as Stargazer, I am told I am an excellent listener. Should you ever find yourself wanting of company, come to the River, and I shall find you." A true smile lit her face, softening her expression. "What else would you like to know?"

Positioning hisself in a better hearing position, he listened to her greeting and saw her crania lower also.Immediatly he remembered when lesser beings would do that, not form loyalty, but form fear.Sneering as he lowered his dile, he covered his orbs from her and he said huskly, Please, never bow to me, it brings back memories that are best kept in the shadows within my mind of a different past. Throwing his cranial forward, he watched her carefully before saying with a great sigh, Many things trouble me of course, along with the basics of life of course.but the only thing now is of my past.

Sominum nodded her heavy head, ears twitching ceaselessly. "I mean not to remind you of past troubles, simply to show my loyalty to you and the rest of the herd." Her expression never wavered from her calm smile, her eyes softening as Loco admitted that he did have troubles.
"Admitting ones troubles is the first step to solving them. But come, walk with me." Moving forward again, the dappled mare stepped past the smaller stallion and began moving down the riverbank, following the flowing of the water. "All things change here, and yet that change is simply part of its sameness." She stated after a time, her head bobbing in time with her heavy footfalls. "Change comes because it is meant to come, and thus is it the same. If there were no change, there would be no life." Her gaze turned again to Loco, a slyer smile on her gray face. "But, while these teachings do come from ancestors, they are not what you seek presently. The Ancestors have not spoken to me yet of the fates of these or any other lands. When they do, for, indeed, they shall, you will be the first I tell. From there, it will be your decision on how to lead your people. I am merely a messenger, and at times, an adviser."
She was silent again, watching the path before them, one that she had taken many a time. "Are you prepared for that, Loco?"

Walking with the femme, he listened to her every word and soaked it in, knowing he may not ever hear those words from a better equine. When he heard of his decessions, he bobbed his cranial in agrrement to her words, more ot himself than to anything.Hearing her say that she was merely a messenger, he snorted and shook his dile saying softly, You are more than you think, some will underestimate you. Heairng her question, he stopped and let her walk forward for a second.Finding his answer, he asked himself was it right to know what he wanted and how to do it.Looking at her, he nodded and said, Yes.
"Give your mistress my greetings," he replied. "And tell her that the moon is new, that I can find only eleven months in the year, and that the sea is by no means full."
Not understanding the meaning of these words, the servant repeated them word for word to his mistress; and thus his theft was discovered, and he was punished. After a little while, the young man appeared with the old farmer. He was treated royally, as if he were the son of a great man, though the farmer knew nothing of his origins. In the course of the conversation, he told them everything---about the fish's laughter, his father's threatened execution, and his own exile--- and asked their advice about what he should do.
"The laughter of the fish," said the girl, "which seems to have been the cause of all this trouble, indicates that there is a man in the women's quarters of the palace, and the king doesn't know anything about it."
"Great! That's great!" exclaimed the wazir's son. "There's yet time for me to return and to save my father from a shameful and unjust death."
The following day he rushed back to his own country, taking with him the farmer's daughter. When he arrived, he ran to the palace and told his father what he had heard. The poor wazir, now almost dead from the expectation of death, was carried at once to the king in a palanquin. He repeated to the king what his son had said. "A man in the queen's quarters! Never!" said the king.
"But it must be so, Your Majesty," replied the wazir, "and to prove the truth of what I've just heard, I propose a test. Please call together all the female attendants in your palace and order them to jump over a large pit, specially dug for this purpose. The man will at once betray himself by the way he jumps."
The king had the pit dug and ordered all the female servants of the palace to try to jump over it. All of them tried, but only one succeeded. That one was found to be a man! Thus was the queen satisfied and the faithful old wazir saved.
